TN* section specifies requirements for and dimensions of single-core and multi-core PVC insulated and sheathed cables having reduced fire propagation performance.

The maxenum continuous conductor temperature shal not exceed 70° C The maximum temperature for shorvctrcwt condition is 1 бО^С.

This section covers the following classes of cable:

li) single-core cables having circular copper conductor, without metallic coveting

fii> 2, 3, 4, 5. 7, 10. 14. 19 and 24 core cables having circular copper conductor, without metallic covering.

2. Additional general requirements

Th* following general requirements shall be read in conjunction with those given in Part 1.

2 1 Identification of cores

Th* cores of all cables shall ba identified as follows:

For single’core cables. the core shall be green-yellow rf used as protection core, or any colour in the other case

For cables wnh up io and Including 5 cores, each cor* shall be identified by one single colour, except th* cor* identified by a combination of green-yellow colours

For cables having more than 5 cores a identification by printing or numbers is recommended, leaving the green yellow colour for the protection core, if any. Alternatively it is allowed to use colours according to the following scheme:

  • cores In a single layer: all cor«s except two shall be black coloured. One out of the two shatf be green-yellow coloured, if the protection core is used, or brown coloured, whilst the second one aha! be light blue coloured.

  • cores in mull ip I* layers; in each layer, when this consists of at least two cores, a core shall be brown coloured, whilst in the outer layer two cores shal be respectively green-yeWow it used as protection core, or brown and light blue coloured,

AU the other cores shall be black.

Core identification starts from the green yellow or brown core towards th* light blue one.

  1. Cable marktno

The method of cable marking shall comply with clause 3 of Рал 1 and the Following additional requirements.

2-2.1 External marking

The external surface of all cables shall be legibly marked as follows: (al cables without metalhc coverino

The Legend shall be along one or more lines, and in the latter case the lines shall be approximately equally spaced around the circumference.

The gap between the end of one legend and the beginning of the next one shafl not be greater than O S m

When embossing or indenting is used, the toners and figures shall consist of upright block characters. In the legendr the maximum size of the characters shaN be 13 mm and ihe minimum size 15% of (he specified overall diameter or 3mm, whichever t$ greater

In case of pnntmg, the print height shaH be 16% of the specified overall diameter as a minimum. The number shall be printed in a colour which contrasts with the oversheath colour.

Compliance shall be checked by visual examination and measurement.

  1. Additional test raouiremenis

    1. Sampling for special sample test;

(a) Electrical resistance o' tha conductor

The electrical resistance of the conductor shall be checked on 20% of the finished lengths or on five lengths, whichever Із greater. The measurement shad be made on each conductor up to a maximum of five of each length of cables selected for the test.

(bl Insulation resistance on cable tonoth

The insulation resistance shall be measured on 10% of the finished lengths or on 3 lengths, whichever is greater. The measurement shall be made on each core up to a maximum of two of each length of cable selected for the test.

<c> Banding test

The bending test shall be performed on samples taken from the finishod lengths on the following basis:Cable length

Note: 1. In calculating the above mentioned lengths it Is permitted to assemble cables with different cross-section Зи

2. If the total length in the contract does not exceed 2 km, it is permitted to omit the test provided the manufacturer can demonstrate io have successfully performed the test on at least one similar cable sample on the occasion of previous contracts.

(d) Construction, marking and dimensions

The construction, marking and dimensional checks shall be performed on 6% of the finished lengths, rounded upwards.

Checks relevant to cores shall be limited to three cores of each length of cable selected for the test for cables with up to and including 10 cores, and to four cores for cables with more than 10 cores.

<•) Physical tarn, insulation resistance at high tennwature. water abtorotiort

Physical tests, insulation resistance at high temperature and water absorption test shall be performed on samples taken from the finished lengths on the following basis:

Note: 1. In calculating the above mentioned lengths it is permitted to assemble cables with different cross-sections.

2« If the total hegth in the contract does not exceed 2 km. It Is permitted to omit the test provided the manufacturer can demonstrate to have successfully performed the test on at least one simitar cable sample on the occasion of previous contracts.

The purchaser may wholly or partly omtf the tests even in case of delivered lengths greeter then 2 km. when providing reliable results of tests carried out on the occasion of previous contracts.

The test pieces required for the physical tests on insulation shall be taken at random from different cores.

Insulation resistance at hrah temperature and water abeorpbon shat be made on each core up to * maximum of three of each length of cable selected for the rest.

HI Repetition of the tests

If any catHe length (or cable sample) should fall in any of the tests at b) and d) the same test or tests m which the original sample failed shall be earned out on aM с»Ые lengths in the contract and the defective ones shall be rejected.

If в cable sample should fail in any of bending teat, insulation resistance at high temperature, water absorption test, the same test or tests in which the original sample faded shall be carried out on two further samples. Should either of them fail, the batch of which these samples are representative shall be regarded as falling to comply

И а cable sample should fail in any of the physical tests the same test or tests shall be carried out on another sample: In this case the sample shall have a sufficient length to allow the test pieces to be taken from positions at least 1 m apart.

The number of cores to be checked shall be as stated in rtems lai to le).

  1. Check of imitation of the wn

When a cable sample is reared in accordance with sub-clausa 2. L6.2 of HO 605, the gap between the adjacent edges of the tapes shall not be greater than 4 mm.

  1. 3.3 Measurements ol cable dimensions

When the overall dimension of the cable is checked in accordance with sub-cfause 2.1.3.1 of HD 605. the mean overall dimension shah comply with the values specified In Tables 4 to 10.

When the ovalrty of the cable is checked in accordance with sub-clause 2.13,2 of HD 60S, the difference between the maximum and minimum value of the diameter shall not exceed 1S% of the overaN diameters specced in Tables 4 to 10.

  1. Bend test on complete cable

The bend rest shall be carried out at ambient temperature in accordance with sub-clauae 2.4.1 Л of HD 60S. immediately after conditioning in a straight arrangement for at least 1 h at 10 ± 3)eC-

The mandrel diameter shall be 18 ID + dl ± 5%; D and d being respectively the measured overall and conductor diameters.

After the band rest, the Ghent cable shall be immersed in water al amtwem temperature, leaving above water a length of sample adequate for the test-

A voltage of 6 kV a,c~ or 15 kV d.c. shall be applied for 10 min on succession between each conductor and аЛ the other conductors connected together and to water. The lest level shall be attained by gradually increasing the voltage, ho breakdown shaN occur

After ths voltage test, a piece of cable of about 20 D in length (D baWig the measured overal diameter in the middle of the sample), shall be stripped carefuly and cho various components shall be visually examined. Neither breaking of conductor nor cracks of insulation or oversheath are allowed.Page З-С-6

When tested к! accordance with sub-clause 3.2.1 of HD 605, using a test voltage of 4 kV ас. or 12 kV d-c. for a duration of IS mm in the case of single-core, and 10 min in tha case of mtiki-cote свЫм, the mediation shal not break down.

In the case of multi-core cables the teat voltage shall be applied as follows:

(a] for cables with up to and including 5 cores in succession between each conductor and al the other conductors connected together;

(bl for cables with more than 6 cores:

  • between al conductors with odd number in all layers connected together, and all conductors with even number in all layers, connected together;

  • between al conductors of the even layers, connected together, and all conductors in the odd layers, connected together;

  • between the first and the last conductor in a layer, when it is formed by an odd number of conductors.

  1. Insulation resistance tests

When a sample of core is tested in accordance with sub-da use 3.3.1 of HD 605 the К value at 70 °С she! not be Issa than 0,3 M ohm.km.

The teat on core shal be carried out after the voltage test specified in sub-clause 2.3.5.

When complete cable is tested in accordance with sub clause 3,3.3 of HD 605 the К value at (20 a 21 °С shall not be less than 450 M ohm.km.

The test on complete cable shall be earned out after the voltage test specified in sub»clau&e 2.3,5,

  1. RgmB propagation test on bunched cables

The test shall be earned out in accordance with sub-clause 4.1,3 of HD 60S on pieces of cable as delivered.

The number' of cable pieces shall be such as to give a total mass of non-metaCic material of WKg/m

The test shall be considered satisfactory if the charred or affected portion does not reach a height exceeding 3.5 m above the top edge of the furnace measured at the front and the rear of cable аьвотЫу.

The conductors shall be of the material and type detailed to tables 4 to 7 and shall comply with th* requirements of HD 383:

Class 2 for stranded conductors.

Class Б for flexible conductors.

The resistance requirements are given to Tables 4 to 7.

The insulation shall be poly vinyl chloride IPVCI compound, type R2h comptytog with the requirements given to Table 1 -

The in^ul st ton thickness shall comply with the values specified to Tables 4 to 7.

  1. Inner Covering

The toner covering shall consist of an extruded layer of a non hygroscopic compound compatible wiih the operating temperature of the cable

In the case of single-core cable the toner covering is optional.

3 3 4 Ovmheath

The oversheath shall consist of a polyvinyl chloride IPVCJ compound, type Hi, complying with the requirements given in Table 2.

The oversheath thickness shall comply with the values specified to Tables 4 to 7.

  1. Tests

Compliance with the requirements of clause 3 3 $nM be checked by inspection and by the tests specified in Table 3.

the conductors shall be of the material and type detailed in Tables 8 to 10 and shell comply with the requirements of HD 383:

Class 2 for stranded conductors.

Class 5 for flexible conductors.

The resistance requirements are given in Tables 8 to 10.

4-3.2 Insula two

The Insulation shati be polyvinyl cNoride IPVC1 compound, type R2, conveying with the requirements given in ТаЫе 1.

The meuNic covering shall consist of two tinned copper tapes overlapping or boning, the electrical resistance of which shall not exceed 5 ohm /km at 20*C.

  1. Oversheath

The oversheath shell consist of a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compound, type Rzr complying with the requirements given in Tabla 2.

The oversheath thickness shall comply with the values specified in Tables 8 to 10.

  1. Tests

Compliance with the requirements of clause 4.3 shall be checked by inspection and by the tests specified In Tabfe 3.
