Великі відстійники обов’язково обладнують очисними скреперними механізмами та/чи системами відсмоктування, які, за необхідності, монтують на похилому дні резервуара.

Резервуари всіх типів потрібно обладнувати лопатками (перегородками для руйнування піни), що забезпечують безперервність проходження стічних вод через резервуар. Конструкція резервуара має передбачати регулярне очищення його від піни та затриманого у ній сміття

Вимоги щодо використовування, ремонтування та обслуговування станцій очищення стічних вод наведено в EN 12255-1.
