1. Combination of parameter variations

An extended application analysis shall first of all consider each variation individually; the analysis shall then consider the effect of combining several of the relevant variations in accordance with the rules of the extended application standard.

  1. Procedure for undertaking extended application

This is illustrated in Figure 2. The following steps shall be followed when undertaking extended application analysis:

  1. define the product family;

  2. collect the evidence from the various sources;

  3. apply the rule(s) from the appropriate European standard using interpolation/extrapolation as appropriate/required; it is essential that there is clear justification of a combination of parameter changes;

  4. establish if the evidence available is sufficient to support the fire performance wanted for the defined product family (if not, decide on what action is needed);

  5. report the extended application analysis in accordance with Clause 6.

  1. Information to be included in an extended application report

The format to be used for an extended application report shall be as given in Annexes A to C as appropriate. A separate report shall be prepared for each test undertaken. The extended application report shall include the following information as a minimum. A clear distinction shall be made between data provided by the sponsor and data determined by the test or by the extended application standard.

  1. Reference to the test method(s), extended application standard and any relevant technical specification;

  2. Name and address of the body issuing the extended application report;

  3. Date and identification number of the extended application report;

  4. Name and address of the sponsor;

  5. Dates, identification numbers and bodies who have issued test report(s) used in this report and date(s) of test(s);

  6. Name and address of the manufacturer/supplier, if known;

  7. Identification of the technical specification, product/product family and intended use;

  8. Description of the sampling procedure used in the tests forming the basis of the extended application, where relevant, end use application and intended use;

  9. General description of the product/product family tested and extended application standard applied (including density, mass per unit area and thickness, together with the details of the construction of the test specimen);

  10. Description of substrate and fixing to the substrate (if used) and end use condition;

  11. Details of conditioning and ageing, if relevant;

  12. Any deviations from the test method(s) as reported in the test report(s);

  13. Test results in accordance with the actual test method(s) of concern, referenced in a);

n) Any additional supporting data used as identifying extended application standard (including identification/reference of this data), all relevant information, test standards, deviation from standards;

  1. Detailed description on application of extended application standard; all the extensions shall individually reference the clause of the extended application standard, with justification for any combination of parameter changes by reference to the relevant clause in the extended application standard;

  2. Extended application results;

  3. Summary of results including application ranges;

  4. Additional statements ('The extended application results relate to the behaviour of a product/product family or building element under the particular conditions of the test; they are not intended to be the sole criterion for assessing the potential fire hazard of the product/product family or building element in use').
